Tehran considers Azerbaijan’s proposal on opening of simplified overland transport corridor from Nakhchivan to Baku

“Tehran considers the Azerbaijan’s proposal on opening of simplified overland transport corridor from Nakhchivan to Baku,” Afshar Suleymani, the Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, said to a news conference on Thursday, Trend reports.

The Ambassador noted that Iran positively appreciated the project and intended to develop the route working in both directions i.e Iranian citizens also would be able to use the route. According to Suleymani, the sides must organize meeting of expert delegations in this regard.

Suleymani stressed that during the January visit of the Azerbaijani President to Iran the sides signed a document on application of simplified visa regime for the residents of the border regions. In accordance with the document, the residents of the regions located in 45 km of the border can receive 3-month free non-expendable visa. The visa is due to be issued 4 times in a year. Other document undersigned during the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister to Baku envisages privileges and issue of free visa to the residents of Nakhchivan 12 times in a year.
