President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed on 26 December 2005 a Decree on implementation of the International Convention of 1990 В"On Cooperation in the field of preparation and fight the cases of oil contamination”.
Under the Decree, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as the Ministry of Industry and Energy are appointed the authorized national bodies envisioned by the International Convention, Trend reports. The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan has been committed to notify the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization on the appointment of the authorized national bodies in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan joined the Convention by approving the relevant law on 18 June 2004.
