UNESCO Praises Azerbaijan's contribution in Maintaining World Culture Heritage  UNESCO General Director

UNESCO praised Azerbaijan's contribution in the preservation of the world culture heritage. The statement was made by the General Director of the Organization, Kontiro Matzuura, at a festival Azerbaijan: Crossroads of Civilizations and Cultures', Trend reports citing ITAR-TASS.

The head of the international organization stressed that the reforms are maintained in the education sector, work on rehabilitating the Great Silk Route and the creation of the World Mugam Center. "I am very satisfied with the development of the bilateral relationships, Matzuura said. It is a good example of co-operation." He indicated his intention to pay a visit next to Baku.

Mehriban Aliyeva, the Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO made a presentation in Paris of the Country's projects within the humanitarian sector. She spoke about the children protection program, support given to refugees and spreading tolerance within the society. Our country [Azerbaijan] shares universal values, the First Lady stated. We know where we are going.

A gala-concert entitled "Dialogue of cultures: from folk to modern rhythms" was held with the participation of popular creative bands and soloists. The dance ensembles, vocalists and instrumental groups all swapped with each other during the concert, presenting all aspects of music to the audience. In the finale, the spectators were entertained with a surprise appearance from Patrizia KAas.

The visitors of UNESCO House in Sufferen Street are able to visit the exhibition of photo-robots, which has been recently opened in Paris. The Azerbaijani Ambassador to France, Tarik Aliyev, invited the Parisians to a performance by the Azerbaijan State Chamber Music named after Gara Garayev with the participation of opera soloists. Compositions by outstanding national composers and world classic music compositions were heard under the arch of Saint Lui dez Invalid Cathedral. The Parisians gave a warm reception to the Major Conductor, Teymur Goychayev and his Orchestra.

In talks with the ITAR-TASS correspondent, the Azerbaijani Minister for Culture & Tourism, Abulfaz Garayev, noted that the performances by the Azerbaijani actors and the photo exhibition were dedicated to the 60th Anniversary of UNESCO. Azerbaijan joined UNESCO in June 1992.

The varied culture heritage of the Country, which has been shaped over many Centuries, is an important base for the development of civilization", states UNESCO, which unites 191 countries at present. Representatives of UNESCO headquarters welcomed Azerbaijan's endeavor to promote and exchange mutual understanding between the East and West, North and South.
