6th Congress of Meskheti-Turks Residing in Azerbaijan Began in Baku

The 6th Congress of the Meskheti-Turks residing in Azerbaijan began in Baku on December 2. 300 participants of the Congress represent the interests of 70,000 Meskheti-Turks residing in Azerbaijan, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Society of Meskheti-Turks, Ibrahim Burkhanov, informed Trend. The Congress focused on their return to their Native Lands Georgia. Program documents and declarations will be adopted to the UNO and other international organizations with a requirement to ensure their return to their historical lands. In addition, an appeal is ready to the President of Georgia, who has undertaken international obligation to guarantee the return of Meskheti-Turks.

The previous, 5th congress of the Meskheti-Turks residing in Azerbaijan took place in February 2000. The 1st World Congress of the Meskheti-Turks was held in Baku in July 2000.

Making a speech at the Conference, the Advisor of the Turkish Embassy for Education Selaheddin Dikmen said that the Turkish Government attentively follows the destiny of the Meskheti-Turks and considers that the international community should ensure their right to return to Georgia.
