Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr E. Huseynli / Khazar TV won the tender for the frequency of Samanyolu (STV) channel owing to its strong technical basis and professional staff, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan National Television and Radio Council, Nushiravan Maharramli, said.
Broadcasting STV via a local frequency was stopped on 10 July 2007 by the decision of the Council. Elm LTD, Antenn independent TV and radio company, and Khazar TV took part in the tender.
The meeting of the Council on 14 September decided to issue a six-year license to the winner, according to Maharramli. Khazar TV will begin broadcasting on 1 October. Up to that date, Samanyolu will be broadcasted through the same frequency, he said.
According to Maharramli, the founder of Khazar TV is the former director of the Intellekt research centre and Azadinform news agency, Asaf Hajiyev. The channel will focus on enlightenment, culture, and education.
The license will cost AZN 11,000.
