Azerbaijan’s National TV and Radio Council Joins EPRA

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynli / The National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan was elected as a real member of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA), the Council's Assistant Chairman, Mehdi Mammadov, reported to Trend on 18 October.

According to him, EPRA has sent the decision to Azerbaijan regarding Council's entrance to the organization.

EPRA brings together 50 European countries and Azerbaijan became the 51st member. The EPRA Secretariat is located in Strasburg. The decision is of recommendation character. The issue of Azerbaijan's membership was discussed on the 26th meeting of EPRA in Sofia on 3-6 October.

Mammadov said that due to Council's entrance to EPRA, a new monitoring system will be devised with regards to the activity of the televisions and radios in Azerbaijan. The National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan will consider the recommendations of the EPRA participating countries if they are not contrary to Azerbaijan's legislation. In addition, Maddadov said that if contradicting moments appear in the activity of televisions and radios, correspondence will begin with EPRA to resolve these problems.
