Azerbaijan to Take Adequate Steps in Reply to Russia’s Position: Chairman of National TV Council

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynli / Failure in reaching an agreement on the mutual transmission of the TV channels of Azerbaijan and Russia at the meeting of the Working Group in Moscow resulted from the Azerbaijan National TV and Radio Council (ANTRC) being dissatisfied.

" Azerbaijan will take adequate steps in response to Russia's position," the Council's Chairman, Nushiravan Maharramli, reported to Trend on 14 November.

The meeting of the Working Group took place in Moscow on 11-12 December.

Russian required a license for the broadcasting of the Azerbaijani TV in the Country. According to the Russian legislation, 50% of the investments allocated for the broadcasting of a TV channel in the Country's territory should belong to Russia.

Maharramli said that by 1 January the Council will consider the transmission of the Russian RTR-Planeta TV channel in the national frequency of Azerbaijan. According to him, most likely the transmission of RTR-Planeta in Azerbaijan will be ceased.

At the beginning of January the TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan made a decision to cease the broadcasting of the Russian TV RTR-Planeta from 10 July. After the appeal of the Russian side and terms of the transmission of the Azerbaijani TV channel in Russian, the broadcasting of RTR-Planeta was extended.

The members of the Working Group have already held two meetings and the initial version of the project was prepared. A technical agreement has been devised to come to a common agreement. Azerbaijan submitted its document two months ago. The chairman of the Council repeatedly stated that the broadcasting of the Russian RTR-Planeta on the national frequency of Azerbaijan will be stopped if no agreement is achieved.

Azerbaijan considers that broadcasting of AzTv must cover such a range in the territory of Russia as RTR-Planeta in Azerbaijan.
