Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 January / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Azerbaijani Press Council completed the trial concerning the functioning of the Bizim Yol newspaper and commented on its response, the Press Council reported to Trend.
The Anti-Corruption Department at the General Prosecutor Office of Azerbaijan submitted the presentation on the Bizim Yol to the Press Council. The presentation stated that in spite of 29 people having worked in the newspaper, no labour agreement was signed with them, they received salaries unofficially and no agreement was signed with the owner of the rented apartment, no accounting was done, nor was there any documents confirming the purchase of equipment for the editorial office. The Press Council carried out checks in the Bizim Yol after submitting the presentation.
The Council, however, came to the conclusion that the newspaper functioned in compliance with the acting legislation in the sphere of media, taxes, labour, private entrepreneurship, accounting and others. The Council stated that all issues included in the presentation by the Anti-Corruption Department at the General Prosecutor Office meet the reality from the point of view of the media. The monitoring and checks revealed violation of workers' rights, labour agreements and other violations.
The journalist of the Bizim Yol newspaper Mushvig Huseynov was detained on 24 July as a result of a special operation in the Gurd Gapisi restaurant in the Yasamal District of Baku. A criminal case has been filed in contravention of Article 311.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
