Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 January / corr Trend S.Ilhamgizi / People appealing the European Court for existence of problem of political prisoners in Azerbaijan have their own benefits exaggerating this issue, Elmira Suleymanova, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman, said. This is their business, Suleymanova told Trend.
Fifty law-defenders, heads of opposition parties, non-governmental organizations and journalist organizations appealed the CE for the appointment of a rapporteur on political prisoners in Azerbaijan.
During the news conference on 29 January the law-defenders stated that unless the problem of political prisoners in resolved in Azerbaijan in the near future, the CE will appoint a repporteur on this issue.
Suleymanova said that there is no necessity for the CE's investigation into the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan. People appealing the CE are well aware of absence of such problem in Azerbaijan.
"They all are well aware of absence of pursuits for political viewpoints in Azerbaijan. Simple, this is their business, the Ombudsman said.
Earlier Samad Seyidov, the head of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation to the CE, told Trend that he did not believe in the appointment of a rapporteur on political prisoners in Azerbaijan. In the opposite it will negatively impact the relations between Azerbaijan and the CE.
