International Red Cross Committee Meets with Azerbaijani Captives

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 March / Trend corr K. Zarbaliyeva/ On 13 March, representatives of the International Red Cross Committee's Armenian Office met with Yagub Mukhtarov the Azerbaijani soldier who was captured by Armenian armed forces on 9 March.

Mukhtarov was born in Sheki on 29 April 1988. He was conscripted into the military service by the Sheki Military Conscription.

A visit to monitor Mukhtarov's prison conditions as well as his health was made. Mukhtarov's family and the Azerbaijani State Commission for POWs, Hostages and Missing Persons were updated on the results of the monitoring, the Spokesperson for the Red Cross Baku Office Gulnaz Mammadova said on 14 March.

According to Shahin Sailov, the Secretary of Azerbaijan's State Commission for POWs, Hostages and Missing Persons, Mukhtarov is keeping well. The Commission has applied to the International Red Cross Committee to have him returned. The circumstances of the capture are currently being investigated.

According to the Mukhtarov's uncle, Vagif Sadigov, the Red Cross representatives brought a letter from Mukhtarov in which Mukhtarov wrote that he had been held captive and wanted to return home. His family responded to his letter through the Red Cross.
