OSCE Expect Azerbaijani Governments’ Special Attention on Attack on Azadlig Newspaper Journalist

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 March / Trend corr. K.Ramazanova / OSCE expects from Azerbaijani Government special attention on attack on the journalist of opposition Azadlig newspaper.

"We hope that the persons guilty with the crime is arrested soon and sent to the jail", Mario Rocho, representative of the juridical department of OSCE Baku Office, stated to journalists on 14 March.

On 13 March, at 8.00pm Agil Khalil, a journalist of the Azadlig newspaper, was stabbed in the chest by unknown assailants. He was immediately taken to the Clinical Medical Centre, where he was operated upon.

An investigation has been launched into the case.

Rocho has expressed regret that in spite of the regular information on attack on journalists, nobody has been arrested so far.

Anne E. Derse, United States Embassy in Azerbaijan, representatives of Council of Europe, Norway and German Embassies in Azerbaijan, MPs Panah Heseyin and Nasib Nasibzadeh, as well as Aflatun Amashev, chairman of Press Council and others visited the journalist in the hospital.
