Turkish Politician Detained in Azerbaijan, Opposes Participation of Journalists in Court

Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 April / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Journalists are not permitted to participate in the court proceedings on the case of Mehmet Harun Kayaji, the Deputy Chairman of the Independent Turkish party. The decision was taken during the preliminary session in the Yasamal District Court on 21 April.

The court reported that Kayaji appealed to the Court, and requested that journalists be prohibited from participating in the process. The request was approved and the court proceeding is scheduled for 2 May.

The case of another Turkish citizen and Azerbaijanis, detained by the Military Prosecutor Office of Azerbaijan, is being considered.

Kayaji and other detained persons are charged with encroaching on the rights of citizens under the religious rite.

Presently, Kayaji is being held in the isolation cell in the National Security Ministry of Azerbaijan.
