Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 September / Trend corr. S.Kazimli /The preparatory sitting on the criminal case involving Vugar Alakparov, former member of the Azerbaijani National Boxing Team and bronze winner of the Sydney Summer Olympic Games, was held.
A criminal case has been filed over Alakparov on the Article 182.3.3 (blackmail) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Alakparov was detained by officials of the Central Anti Organized Crime Department on 16 May 2008 and secured placement under the decision of the Narimanov District Court.
Under the bill of indictment, Alakparov demanded $10,000 from Kanan Guliyev, founder of the Inshaatchi CJSC.
Alakparov's attorney Parviz Alakparov asked to change the punishment and send a request to Azercell company to reveal Guliyev's telephone conversations in May. The lawsuit was rejected.
