In Azerbaijan a trial of a municipality chairman accused of bribery has begun.
The accused municipality chairman for the settlement of Khojahasan in the Binagadi district of Baku, Zafar Masimov, has admitted his partial guilt at the trial, the Azerbaijani Court of Serious Crimes told Trend on Sept.2.
In 2007, Masimov made an illegal decision to transfer 400 square meters state land in the Binagadi district to Khanlar Dadashov.
Masimov was accused of Azerbaijani Criminal Code Articles 179 (Misappropriation or peculation), 309 (Exceeding the commission), 311 (Bribe taking) and 314 (Negligence).
Although Masimov said in his testimony that he did not take bribes, he recognized that he exceeded his commission and admitted his guilt in negligence.
In 2008, the Justice Ministry, under administrative control, looked into about 16, 000 municipal acts, eliminated 436 municipal acts and referred materials on 15 municipalities to the prosecuting authorities. More than 6, 000 hectares of land illegally allocated to municipalities were returned.
Some municipality chairmen have been prosecuted.
