Vienna will later this month host a concert to mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Azerbaijani composer and musical giant Uzeyir Hajibeyov, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Austria said.
Ambassador Fuad Ismayilov said the concert will take place on Sept. 22 near a monument to the composer in Vienna's Danube Park.
Azerbaijani musicians, including Farhad Badalbeyli, Ramiz Guliyev, conductor Eyyub Guliyev, and singers Farid Mammadov and Azer Zeynalov, are due to take part.
The Vienna Chamber Orchestra will also perform at the anniversary concert, at which Hajibeyov's works will be performed.
Hajibeyov (1885-1948) is a towering figure in Azerbaijani music, whose works played a fundamental role in the history of Azerbaijan's national culture. The formation and development of professional music in Azerbaijan, the appearance and evolution of many musical genres and the creation of a number of professional groups are all associated with Hajibeyov.
The composer is credited with creating the first national musical theater in the entire Middle East.
The composer of the first Azerbaijani operas, musical comedies, popular songs, cantatas, oratorios, and works for folk orchestras, as well as "Koroghlu" - the first classic of Azerbaijani opera and a masterpiece of Azerbaijan's musical culture - Hajibeyov played a prominent role in the development of national culture as a social activist, playwright, scholar, folklorist, and teacher.
Achievements in the development of music education, musical science and mass education are also part of Hajibeyov's legacy.
