Sweden, Stockholm, Dec. 8 / Trend U.Sadikhova /

The upcoming Eleventh Democratic World Azerbaijanis Congress (DWAC) in London will elect a new executive committee chairman and members, head of the Swdeish Congress of Azerbaijanis Emil Mirzoyev told Trend today.

The congress will be held on Dec. 11-12. Delegates will attend from the Azerbaijani diaspora in Europe, Russia and the United States, as well as scientific and community leaders from Azerbaijan.

The delegates plan to discuss opening a new office in the United States and Europe, in addition to the already operating office in Baku, Mirzoyev said.

The World Azerbaijanis Congress was founded in the United States in 1997. The last congress was held in Brussels in 2008.

The congress is headed by co-chairmen Pasha Galbinur and Mohammad Reza Heshti.

Its agenda includes telling the world community the truth about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the violation of the human rights of 35 million Azerbaijanis living in Iran, Mirzoyev said.

As an executive committee member, Mirzoyev plans to put forward a proposal to appoint one chairman instead of two co-chairs.

The main objective of the Congress is to protect the rights and interests of Azerbaijanis living abroad. In 2005 there was established a council on the basis of the statute of Congress, which a year later divided into two parts.

The German city of Bonn hosted the congress of a second WAC group co-chaired by Sabir Rustamkhanli and Firuddin Pervizniya on Monday.

Mirzoyev said the first day of the congress will be dedicated to the memory of Jafar Pishevari, the founder of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in the north of Iran in 1945, which was subsequently overthrown by the Iranian authorities.
