Party chairman: Some radical Islamist forces in Azerbaijan try to threaten constitutional order

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 13 /Trend, T.Hajiyev/

Some radical Islamist forces in Azerbaijan are trying to threaten the constitutional order, chairman of Ana Vatan Party, MP Fazail Agamali told Trend.

"After the ban on hijab at secondary schools, the believers tried to protest. The relevant agencies have stopped it. The State has unequivocally declared that Azerbaijan is a secular state. This is not a question of human rights, because we are talking about school children and they are under 18 years," said Agamali.

According to him, a statement by the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) openly revealed its intentions. "In this statement, there were certain elements which were a threat to constitutional order of Azerbaijan, and external forces stay behind it," said Agamali.

According to him, these external forces are trying to create an Islamic state in Azerbaijan, this is their strategic interest.

"And they try to carry out these interests through believers. They are gravely mistaken, because today Azerbaijan is quite a strong state. Azerbaijani state is sufficiently capable to resist threats within the law, directing its constitutional order against  it," said Agamali.

According to him, the radical statement by the IPA chairman Movsum Samedov against the constitutional order was accepted with protests throughout the society. "In connection with this, a protest came from the Caucasian Muslims Clerical Office. The investigation revealed that weapons were stored at homes of relatives of party chairman," said Agamali.
According to him, the source of funding for AIP is of much interest.

"The question is from where IPA has such opportunities?" I am also a party chairman. It is difficult to be a party that is not publicly funded. From where they have bodyguards, offices? By which means they contain their own party?" said Agamali.

IPA chairman Movsum Samedov and his relatives were arrested several days ago. Weapons and ammunition were found at the store, owned by Samedov and at homes of his relatives.
