May 31 is marked as the day for commemorating the victims of political repressions in Kazakhstan.
Hundreds of thousands of innocent people were deported to Kazakhstan in 1920-1950.
A total of 3.77 million people become victims of the Stalinist repression in the Soviet Union.
The country holds several events on this occasion.
A memorial plaque will also be opened in Astana by the Azerbaijani Embassy.
A wreath-laying ceremony will also be held at a museum.
