Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the U.S. to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar visited the Press Council on Monday.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov briefed the U.S ambassador on the organization's doings, the Press Council told Trend on Monday.

According to the organization, focusing on the procedure of viewing of complaints in the Council, Amashov stressed that the organization receives complaints from different groups including different parties.

"Both the pro-government and opposition presses are indicated as defendants in these complaints. The Press Council is primarily guided by professional principles while viewing complaints," he stressed.

During the discussions on the aspects of election process and the participation of the press in elections, Amashov stressed that the Press Council holds concrete events on the control over the conditions created for the coverage of elections.

"He also said that additional representatives from the Interior Ministry were involved in the Permanent Commission of the Press Council on the resolution of problems between the media and government agencies. Stressing that one of the priorities of the Press Council is to ensure the safety of journalists during large scale events, Amashov said that a hotline was created for quick settlement of the emerging problems.
