Khojaly genocide - beginning of terror

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 16

By Elmir Murad - Trend:

Some individuals commit the terrorist attacks in the Islamic world under the guise of religion, but this is not connected with Islam, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, the chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, told reporters Nov. 16.

He said that some forces want to humiliate the role of Islam in the world under the guise of religion.

"France always supported peace," he said. "It is one of the leading countries combating terrorism. The terrorist organizations chose France not by chance. I believe that the French leadership will continue combating the terrorism."

Pashazade added that terrorism is not national or religious in nature.

"When the terrorist attacks were committed in Azerbaijan, some countries did not pay attention to this," he said. "When the Khojaly tragedy occurred, we informed the whole world about this. This was the beginning of terrorist attacks. We appealed to the parliaments of all countries during January 20 events but nobody heard. The recent terrorist attacks committed in Lebanon and France is the continuation of these incidents. I regret that the leaders of some countries pay more attention to the state interests, rather than the terrorist attacks."

Numerous terrorist attacks were conducted in Paris on Nov. 13-14. Four gunmen systematically slaughtered at least 89 young people attending a rock concert at the Bataclan music hall.

Some 40 more people were killed in five other attacks in the Paris region, including an apparent double suicide bombing outside the national stadium where French president Hollande and German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier were watching a friendly soccer international.

129 people have died in the aftermath of a string of terror attacks in Paris, while 99 out of 352 injured are in a critical condition, Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins stated during a news briefing following a string of terror attacks in France's capital.
