BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Rafig Huseynov won a gold medal at the European Championship in Budapest, Trend reports.
Huseynov (82 kg) joined the competition from the 1/8 finals, where he defeated his Czech opponent Petr Novak with a score of 5:1. In the quarterfinals, the Azerbaijani wrestler was stronger than the Hungarian Tamas Levaya (2:0). Huseynov defeated Moldavian Mihail Brada in the semi-finals and reached the final of the championship.
In the final, the Azerbaijani wrestler was stronger than his Georgian rival Gela Bolkvadze (2:1) and became a three-time European champion.
Rafig Huseynov became European champion in 2011 in Germany and in 2020 in Italy.
