More than 72 percent of respondents in Azerbaijan expressed their readiness to spend significant time on retraining, which will allow them to completely change their careers amid the rapid development of technologies, BCG and The Network’s ‘Decoding global reskilling and career paths’ report said, Trend reports.

According to the report, during the COVID-19 pandemic, 41 percent of the respondents worldwide expressed their growing concerns about automation, while in Azerbaijan this figure was 50 percent.

Besides, according to the report, the growing concerns are particularly high among people who work in financial institutions, insurance or telecommunications companies.

“The pandemic and the growing pace of disruptive technology are making people wonder what will happen to their jobs. Nearly seven out of ten respondents said they are willing to undergo retraining that will allow them to completely transform their careers,” said one of the report authors. “This level of flexibility can create a favorable environment for employers and states that are worried about preparing their workforce for the challenges of the future."

In 2020 a fifth (21 percent) of them would like to use state programs for training, which is seven times more than the same figure in 2018, the authors of the report wrote.

Readiness to retrain (68 percent globally) was found to be highest among workers most affected by the pandemic or most at risk of employment from automation. Typically they are employed in the service sector, customer service, or sales. Almost three-quarters of those surveyed in the world with such responsibilities said they are ready to retrain in order to get another job.

Representatives from less vulnerable sectors such as health and medicine, social services, science, and research, in general, expressed less interest in changing careers.

Some 209,000 respondents from 190 countries took part in the survey. It was hosted by BCG and The Network with the participation of hh.ru in Azerbaijan, Russia, and a number of other CIS countries.
