BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 24

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The annual turnover of the E-PUL payment system increased by 124 percent in Azerbaijan in 2021, CEO of PaySis LLC (the legal owner of the E-PUL payment system) Samir Nasibov told Trend on Jan. 24.

Nasibov added that such factors as the launch of Apple Pay contributed to this.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, despite inflation, a huge amount of free funds were accumulated in the country,” CEO of PaySis said. “This may be connected with the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. Moreover, this can be attributed to GDP growth in the oil sector of the economy, which was 7.2 percent in 2021, which is an important achievement.”

“Thanks to the active participation of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, leading banks launched ApplePay in 2021, which had a positive effect on the habit of using a non-cash payment method,” Nasibov said. “Thanks to these factors, the annual turnover of our company grew by 124 percent and in general, we completed the year successfully.”

Moreover, E-PUL connected more than 100 new services in 2021 while the number of people using this system grew by 27 percent to over 500,000 people.

"During the reporting period, we completely renewed our mobile application and we have new services thanks to it," CEO of PaySis said.
