BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. Azerbaijan’s total retail trade turnover grew from January through August 2022, Trend reports via the State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, this figure amounted to 30.8 billion manat ($18.1 billion), up by 2.8 percent on annual basis.

In the first eight months of this year, trade turnover in food, beverages and tobacco equaled 17.4 billion manat, or $10.2 billion (growth of 2.2 percent), whereas turnover in non-food products – 13.4 billion manat, or $7.8 billion (growth of 3.6 percent).

Besides, according to the committee, 51.6 percent of consumer spending was for food, 13 percent – for textile products, clothing, and footwear, 5.7 percent – for motor gasoline and diesel fuel, five percent – for electrical appliances and furniture, 4.8 percent – for beverages and tobacco, 2.3 percent – for pharmaceutical and medical products, and 16.6 percent – for other non-food products in the reporting period.

Meanwhile, the value of goods sold by private enterprises grew by 2.8 percent compared to the first eight months of 2021, making up 99.7 percent of the total retail turnover.

From January through August 2022, the retail trade activity in real terms for markets and fairs increased by 6.3 percent, for enterprises - by 3.1 percent, as well as for private businessmen – decreased by one percent compared to the same period of 2021.

Azerbaijan’s average monthly retail sales per capita in the reporting period totaled 383.3 manat ($225.4). Thereat, per capita expenditure on food, beverages and tobacco reached 216.6 manat ($127.4), while on non-food products – 167.2 manat ($98.3).
