Delay in Delivery of New Buses

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The first batch of 200 buses made by the South Korean company Daewoo under the contract with Azerbaijani company Trans geyt, will arrive in Baku at the end of September, the Transport Ministry said.

Previously the buses were expected to arrive in August. However, changes injected to the construction of the buses in accordance of local technical requirements have caused a delay in its delivery.

The buses currently used for pubic transportation in Baku will be taken out of circulation, the Ministry said. They do not correspond to technical requirements of the Ministry, as well as the program to improve the transport infrastructure of Baku, carried out under the decree by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Some of the buses will be sent to various regions of Azerbaijan, and the buses that do not correspond to the necessary standards, will not be utilized.

The total budget of the contract to purchase the 1,000 buses manufactured by Daewoo International Corp. is $10mln. The contract was signed in Baku between Trans geyt of Azerbaijan and Daewoo International Corp of South Korea in Baku February 2007.
