Budget Allocations in Science Development of Azerbaijan to Rise Five Times in 2009

Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 November / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Government plans to increase expenditures five times to develop science in the country in 2009 within the framework of the public budget, Samir Sharifov, the Finance Minister said.

According to the Minister, head of state paid great attention to rise of salaries of employees of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences within last two years. Besides this, means were allocated to purchase equipment of the academy in 2008.

"It is incorrect mechanically to approach financing of scientific field and assess state support as size of specific weight in general budget expenditures, the Minister said. First of all, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that budget of the country was directed to development and major part of expenditures falls on state investment within last three years."

The State Commission was established in 2008 under Premier Artur Rasizade's chairmanship to develop a state program on development of science.

"At present, the state program is under development and additional means will be allocated after its adoption," the Minister said.
