Austria, Vienna, April 1 / Trend , A.Alasgarov/

Economic tourism data shows that winter 2008-2009 was the second most active in Austria's history.

"This past winter was the second most active in Austrian history. Our tourism and small and medium enterprise (SME) sectors are growing despite the global financial crisis. This is most encouraging," Economics Minister Reinhold Mitterlener said.

The number of people visiting Austria increased by two percent to 10.4 million people from November 2008 to February 2009, the Austrian Statistical Administration and Economical Research Institute reported.

The sale of goods and services increased by 2.6 percent to 8.72 billion euro in Austria durring this period.

"The government's support for tourism attracts many visitors and assists SMEs," Mitterlener said.
