Turkmenistan issues int'l tender to construct fishing-boats

On May 7, State Committee of Fisheries of Turkmenistan announced the international tender for the construction and acquisition of a multi-vehicle fishing vessel, and three pieces of freezer fishing vessels.

Tender proposals are accepted by June 10 2009.

Ships are designated for industrial and social facilities of oil and gas complex and fish farms.

Turkmenistan, along with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Iran, borders the Caspian Sea which is rich biodiversity. The country's fishing is undergoing modernization, and infrastructure of the sector is re-established. Leading flagship is the state enterprise Balkanbalyk which produces fish in the Caspian Sea and is engaged in the processing of fishery products.

The development of aquaculture (breeding and cultivation of aquatic organisms - fish, mollusks, crustaceans, algae under controlled conditions to increase the productivity of water bodies) in various regions of the country is one of key directions of the State Committee.

Exactly a month ago, Batir Tek became the head of the State Committee of Fisheries of Turkmenistan.
