Latvia is interested in expanding economic and legal cooperation with Azerbaijan

Latvia is interested in expanding the legal framework with Azerbaijan and two inter-governmental agreements are expected to be signed in the near future, Latvian ambassador to Azerbaijan Harvijs Baumanis told reporters Wednesday.

"In the near future we want to sign with Azerbaijan an agreement on abolishing visas for holders of diplomatic passports, and an agreement on legal assistance, which would simplify the use of official documents between the two countries," the diplomat said.

According to him, Latvia is interested in expanding economic cooperation with Azerbaijan.

"Latvian banks have been operating in the financial sector of Azerbaijan for about five years. That banks such as Citadele banka, Rietumu Banka, Baltikums Banka and Trustbank that focus on servicing private clients to ensure their contacts with foreign banks," said the ambassador.

Azerbaijan imports from Latvia mostly foods - milk, sour cream, cottage cheese, in the future it is planned to import jam. Now Azerbaijan also imports pharmaceutical products.

"We are interested in importing from Azerbaijan exotic fruits, but for this Azerbaijan needs to develop primary processing industries. And we hope that this will happen with our help," said the ambassador.
