It is planned to establish a special economic zone in Astara, a member of the Economic Commission of the Iranian parliament, Farhad Delgpush, said, MEHR news agency reported.
He said that the Iranian government sent a draft project to the parliament to turn the town of Astara into a special economic zone. The parliament has already approved this project and sent for consideration. If this project is approved, the town will become a special economic zone.
He said that this will give impetus to the development of trade with Eastern Europe. Astara has the potential to be a gateway for Iran's cooperation with Eastern Europe. The town implements a variety of industrial projects, which makes it important for Iran, he said.
