Turkey ran a 39.600 billion Turkish Lira budget deficit in 2010, Anadolu Agency reported.

The 2010 Central Government Budget figures announced by Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek on Monday, revealed Turkey's budget deficit dropped 24.9% year-on-year in 2010.

The primary surplus in 2010 was 8.697 billion TL, 20 times higher than that of 2009. 

Budget figures showed 56.9% of tax collected in 2010 came from Value Added Tax and Special Taxes.

Turkish government generated a 254.028 billion TL of revenue in 2010, marking a 17.9% of year-on-year rise.

210.532 billion TL of this came from taxes, 35.609 billion TL from non-tax revenues, 5.954 billion TL from special revenues and 1.993 billion TL from regulatory and supervisory organs.

Tax revenues rose 22.1% year on year. Of the 210.532 billion TL of tax revenues, 119,918 billion TL came from Value Added Tax and Special taxes.

Government spent a total of 293.628 billion TL last year.

48.296 billion TL of this was spent on interest payments, 62.301 billion TL on personnel expenses, 11.60 billion TL on Social Security premiums, 28.823 billion TL on purchase of goods and services, 101.891 billion TL on current transfers, 25.907 TL on capital expenses and 6.736 billion TL on capital transfers. Government lending in 2010 totalled 8.613 billion TL. Government spent a total 55.39 billion TL on health services, pension payments and social aid. 5.751 billion TL was spent on health services alone.
