Volume of construction work increases by 20 percent in Azerbaijan

The volume of construction work in Azerbaijan increased by 20.1 percent in January-April compared to the same period of 2010, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan said.
The volume of construction work conducted by state-owned enterprises comprised 31.8 percent, while private sector - 68.2 percent.

Some 74.9 percent of the total amount of construction work accounted for new buildings, reconstruction and expansion work, 15.4 percent - major repairs, 3.3 percent - current repairs, 6.4 percent - other construction work, the committee said.

In the first quarter of 2011, some 67,000 people were involved in the construction sector of Azerbaijan. During this period nominal wage level in the construction sector amounted to 511.8 manat, which is 3.2 percent more than the same period of 2010. Wages in major and small construction companies during this period amounted to 365.5 manat increasing by 6.1 percent, in private companies 635.4 manat decreasing by 2.9 percent.

Nominal wage levels in major and small construction companies during this period amounted to 540.3 manat. The level of wages in the sphere of construction of buildings increased by 2.6 percent during the year and amounted to 545.8 manat, wage on civil construction works amounted to 338.4 manat increasing by 13.3 percent, in the specialized construction decreased by 1 percent to 584.5 manat.

The official exchange rate is 0.7907 manat to $1 on May 16.
