Azerbaijan ups cargo and passenger transportation

In January-April, the various cargo transportation by transport sector of Azerbaijan hit 62.8 million tons or 5.4 percent more than the same period of 2010, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan said.

In January-April, the various cargo transportation by transport sector of Azerbaijan hit 62.8 million tons or 5.4 percent more than the same period of 2010, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan said.
The private sector share in cargo transportation was 72.2 percent. In January-April, 49.1 percent of total volume of cargo accounted for road transport, 33.6 percent - pipelines, 10.8 percent - railway transport and 6.5 percent - sea transport.
Some 452.7 million people were transported by passenger transportation, which is 6.1 percent more compared to the same period of 2010. The majority of passengers were transported by road transport (86.4 percent) and metro (13.2 percent).
Railway transport accounted for 6.8 million tons of various cargo compared to 6.7 million tons during the same period of 2010.

The cargo shipping via sea totaled 4.1 million tons, which is 11.6 percent more than the same period of 2010. All cargo deliveries were implemented under the international operations. The volume of cargo processed in Azerbaijani ports was 4.1 million tons in January-April, or 32.4 percent more than the same period of 2010.

Road transport accounted for 30.8 million tons of cargo, which is 7.3 percent more than January-April 2010. Passenger transportation comprised 391.2 million people (increased by 7.9 percent) with 96.5 percent passengers using buses and 3.3 percent people - vehicles.

Some 59.9 million passengers used metro. The figure reduced by 3.6 percent.

The passenger transportation via airways totaled 365,500 people, which is 41.9 percent more than the same period of 2010. Some 1.8 percent of transportation by this type of transport fell to private sector.

Some 13.3 million tons of cargo was transported through Azerbaijan via the Eurasian transport corridor in January-March or 11.7 percent more than the same period of 2010. Some 60 million passengers were transported through the corridor in January-March or 7.4 percent more than January-March 2010.
