Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov focused on agriculture issues, in particular, preparations for the forthcoming cotton harvest, at the last governmental meeting, the national TV channel Altyn Asyr reported on Tuesday.
Cotton was sown in an area of 550,000 acres in 2010. Soil and climatic peculiarities of each region was taken into account during the sowing campaign
Berdimuhammedov noted with pleasure that a good crop of "white gold" is growing in the fields of the country. He pointed out the need for timely and qualitative execution of all technical measures to care for cotton in strict compliance with established rules and regulations.
In this regard Berdimuhammedov demanded from the administration "to ensure a high level of organization of harvest in places" in the optimum time and without any losses."
Berdimuhamedov instructed in advance to take care of the preparation of agricultural and automobile technique, the smooth functioning of all units of harvesting conveyer, and to take effective measures to preserve the raw harvest.
The contractual obligations were over-fulfilled, about 1.3 million tons of cotton was collected compared to the target of 1.050 million tons in 2010.
The country operates 35 cotton-cleaning plants at the State Concern Turkmenpagta (Turkmenhlopok).
