Iran intends to complete constructing its section within the "Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran" railway project by March next year, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov told press on Monday.

Kazykhanov paid his first visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran last weekend. He met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, chairman of the Majlis of the Islamic Council Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.

"The Iranian side confirmed its intention to complete its part of the project in March next year," he said. "This will give a serious impetus to expand our trade and economic cooperation."

The Uzen-Kyzylkaya-Bereket-Etrek-Gorgan railway line, connecting Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran, is a part of a new rail route "North-South".

The project is implemented in accordance with the Joint Declaration, signed by the presidents of the three countries involved in the project in October 2007 and a trilateral intergovernmental agreement.
