Khorasan-Kars railway to be upgraded by late 2012

Turkey is upgrading the Khorasan-Kars railway connecting the country with Iran, Anadolu agency reported today.

Operations are being conducted on the 124-kilometre railway section. The cost is 41.7 million lira. Around 175 people were engaged with these operations which are expected to be completed by late 2012.

The repairs are being conducted on the Erzurum-Kars railway and around 60 per cent of the work has been completed. After the completion, the time taken to cover the distance between Erzurum and Kars will be reduced from six to 3.5 hours.

The official exchange rate is 1.7866 TRY/USD on Sept. 24.
