Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 24 / Trend A. Akhundov /
Meetings must be held annually between the businessmen of Azerbaijan and the Volgograd region of Russia, Volgograd region governor Sergei Bozhenov said at the Azerbaijani-Russian business forum on Monday. The meeting is being held as part of the visit of a delegation from the Volgograd region led by Bozhenov to Baku.
He said the next business forum will be held in Volgograd in May next year.
"It is necessary to strengthen relations between the business structures of the two countries," he said. "Cargo transportation from Azerbaijan is very attractive. We will develop it. The Volgodonsk Channel enables the transport of goods to the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Baltic Sea and the White Sea.
"Moreover, a project is being implemented to expand the airport at Volgograd," he said. "The rail network is also developing."
The governor expressed confidence that many agreements will be signed between the tourism companies of both sides soon.
"Today, we have the need for enterprises to process agricultural products," he said. "We would like to see Azerbaijani business in this area, as well as in other spheres."
He added that Azerbaijan is traditionally among the top 10 trading partners of the Volgograd region, but the potential for cooperation has not been exhausted.
