Azerbaijan Railways intends to conduct overhaul of 559 kilometers of the Baku- Boyuk Kesik railway (in both directions), spokesman for Azerbaijan Railways Nadir Azmammadov told Trend on Monday.

At present, a 317 kilometer section of the Baku- Boyuk Kesik railway is being repaired through a loan worth 215 million euro allocated by Czech Exim Bank. The work is planned to be completed in late 2013 and early 2014. So far, a 301 kilometer section has been repaired within the overhaul.

The overhaul started on June 10, 2011 at a 97 kilometer section of the Agstafachay - Tatli railway.

The specialized railway facilities No 4 and No 11 of Demiryolservis under the Azerbaijan Railways and the corresponding agencies of the Infrastructure Department were involved in the reconstruction operations.

"The length of the Baku- Boyuk Kesik railway in one direction is 503 kilometers (1,006 kilometers - in both directions)," he said. "The overhaul is under completion at a 317 kilometer section. Around 559 kilometers of the railway must be repaired."

According to Azmammadov, at present, this issue is being considered, in particular the schedule and course of the operations, as well as funding sources.
