Tender extended on port privatization in Turkish province of Izmit

A tender was extended for a month on the privatisation of the Derince port which is on the balance of the General Directorate of Turkish State Railways

A tender was extended for a month on the privatisation of the Derince port which is on the balance of the General Directorate of Turkish State Railways, CNN Turk TV Channel reported on Nov.30.

According to the TV channel, the reasons for the extension of the tender are not currently disclosed.

Turkish Official newspaper (Resmi Gazete) reported in October 2013 that a tender was announced in the country on the privatisation of the Derince port which is on the balance of the General Directorate of Turkish State Railways.

According to the information, the port is located in Izmit province.

Local and foreign companies are allowed to participate in the tender. The participation fee in the tender is 20,000 lira. Bids are accepted up till December 10.

According to the newspaper, the total cost of the port is $30 million. The winner of the tender will manage the port for 36 years.

On July 24 the tender for privatisation of Istanbul's yachting marina was completed. The Sembol Uluslararası Yatırım-Ekopark Turizm-Fine Otelcilik Joint Venture won the tender. It offered $1.3 billion for the port.

Companies such as Cengiz İnşaat-Taca and İnşaat-Galeri Kristal also participated in the tender.

Two five-star hotels, restaurants and shops located at the port area were put up for privatisation within this tender.

The company which won the tender will manage the port for 49 years.
