China’s oldest bank interested in financing major projects in Turkey

Bank of China, the oldest one in the country, is interested in financing major projects in Turkey, the country’s media reported Jan. 22.

The report noted that such important projects as the Istanbul Canal are attractive to China and it is quite possible that Bank of China take part in the financing of this project.

The cost of the canal’s construction is estimated at 60 billion liras. The construction project received an environmental safety certificate.

As many as 6,000 people will be involved in the construction.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed the intention to implement the Istanbul Canal project in 2011.

The depth and width of the Istanbul Canal will be 25 meters and 400 meters, respectively.
