In January-August 2018, the turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 11.38 billion manats, which is 20.4 percent more than in January-August 2017, reads the report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
The total number of transactions with payment cards in January-August made up 75.09 million (an increase of 20.7 percent).
The number of operations on debit cards [both inside and outside the country] equaled to 66.08 million in the amount of 10 billion manats, of which almost 40.73 million operations in the amount of 7.98 billion manats were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and 6.6 million operations in the amount of 895 million manats through POS-terminals.
In January-August 2018, the banks' customers carried out via credit cards [both inside and outside the country] 9 million operations totalling 1.37 billion manats (Over 2 million operations amounting to 525 million manats with the help of ATMs inside the country, and 2.34 million operations amounting to 305 million manats with the help of POS-terminals inside the country).
Number of payment cards, ATMs and POS-terminals
At the end of August, the number of payment cards increased by 11.2 percent to 6.22 million compared to the beginning of the year.
Most of the cards – about 5.39 million – refers to debit cards, in particular, 2.5 million – to social cards, 1.9 million - to payroll cards, and 0.95 million – to other types of cards. The number of credit cards for this period amounted to 836,000.
As of September 1, 2018, there were 2,468 ATMs in the country, of which 1,328 are in Baku, 1,140 are in other cities and regions of the country. In January-August, the total number of ATMs increased by 29, or 1.2 percent.
The number of POS-terminals in the country amounted to 65,762, of which 38,537 were installed in Baku, 27,225 were installed in other cities and regions of the country.
In January-August, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan increased by 581, or 0.89 percent.
Volume of transactions in ATMs and POS-terminals
In August, for 1000 people in Azerbaijan, there were four ATMs and 0.15 POS-terminal.
On average, 2,185.1 transactions amounting to 436,000 manats accounted for the share of one ATM in August. The amount of one transaction accounting for one ATM amounted to 199.7 manats.
On average, 19.6 transactions in the amount of 2,535.1 manats accounted for one POS terminal during the reporting period. The amount of one POS terminal transaction was 129.1 manats.
