Kazakhstan increases fish production

Kazakh fish breeders produced 17,500 tons of fresh, chilled and frozen fish for 8 months of this year. This is 4.9 percent more than in the same period last year, Energyprom.kz reported.

Moreover, 7,600 tons of processed and canned fish, caviar, its analogues and substitutes was produced, which is 0.4 percent less than a year earlier.

The production of canned fish is mainly concentrated in the West Kazakhstan (35.4 percent of the total production in the country), Turkestan (26.5 percent) and East Kazakhstan (7.6 percent) regions.

At the end of September 2018, fresh and chilled fish in stores of Kazakhstan cost an average of 659.6 tenge per kilogram, which is 8.1 percent more than a year earlier. Frozen fish cost 925 tenge – 9.3 percent more than a year ago.

According to data for January-July 2018, Kazakhstan’s fish industry fully satisfies the population’s demand for fish, and crustaceans and molluscs — by almost half.

The official exchange rate on October 12 is 372 USD/KZT.
