Uzbekistan-Ukraine e-commerce lagging behind, yet on right track (Exclusive)

The demand for online purchase of goods from Ukraine is growing in Uzbekistan, Ukraine's national postal operator, Ukrposhta, told Trend on Nov. 12.

The representative of the operator underlined that export is one of the priority areas of Ukrposhta’s activities.

“Special tariffs with various foreign postal operators make it possible to offer the best conditions for e-commerce and stimulate international trade. Ukrposhta already offers special tariffs for mass mailings to Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Belarus. Uzbekistan has also been added to the list recently. Even though Uzbekistan is not in the Top 15 directions, there is an active demand from the Uzbek market for Ukrainian goods,” the Ukrposhta rep said.

A representative of the Ukrainian company noted that the first e-commerce conference in Uzbekistan held on Nov. 6-7 is indicates the development of the country's market.

Earlier, Ukrposhta, has achieved an agreement with Uzbekistan’s postal operator, Uzbekiston Pochtasi, to introduce a special tariff for e-commerce mailing items.

The Uzbek-Ukrainian trade turnover has increased from January to August 2018 by 54.1 percent and has reached $268.4 million. The Ukrainian exports to Uzbekistan reached $187.4 million, with an increase of 83.6 percent, while the imports of Uzbek products by Ukraine exceeded $81.1 million, with an increase of 12.4 percent.
