A complex for the production of iodine, caustic soda and chlorine has been commissioned in the Bereket district of the Balkan province of Turkmenistan, near the Danata settlement, Trend reports with reference to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

The plant was built by a local business association at the site “West Chaalja”, where a deposit of underground saline waters was discovered.

The project of the plant was developed by the scientific production association “Yodobrom” (Russia).

The capacity of the first stage of the plant will allow extracting up to 160-180 tons of iodine per year. Over the next three years, it is planned to bring iodine production to 500 tons per year.

Also, production of 1.5 tons of caustic soda and up to 100 kilograms of chlorine per year has been launched.

The new plant won’t only ensure import substitution for products in demand in many industries, but also will allow creating dozens of additional jobs, the report said.
