It is important for ships all over the world to use low-sulfur fuels starting from 2020, and the Iranian Oil Ministry should take necessary steps in this regard, Hadi Haghshenas, deputy managing director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization, told Young Journalists Club (YJC), Trend reports.

According to Haghshenas, the Ministry of Oil of Iran was informed of this issue many years ago.

He added that the Iranian Oil Ministry has 3 solutions for low-sulfur fuels for ships. The ministry may benefit from utilizing scrubber devices, importing low-sulfur fuels from neighboring countries, or using diesel products.

"The Ministry of Oil should take a step with regards to this in the coming year,” he said, expressing hope that this issue will be solved soon.

Haghshenas added that Iran has 200 ships that are fit for sailing in the ocean; therefore, all ships must use the aforementioned fuel.
