Salmon production grows n Georgia

The quantity of fish produced in aquaculture farms in Georgia in 2018 increased by 16.6 percent compared to 2017 (2,041.7 tons) and amounted to 2,381.1 tons, Trend reports with reference to National Statistics Office of Georgia.

Salmon production in Georgia reached 1,475.5 tons in 2018, which is 26.7 percent more than in 2017. The production of carp increased by 3.9 percent and amounted to 817.1 tons.

Compared with the previous year, sturgeon production decreased by 1.7 percent and amounted to 75.0 tons in 2018. Also, the siluridae production decreased by 9.9 percent and amounted to 12.6 tons.

According to the data on fish production by regions in 2018, Shida Kartli produced 30.2 percent of fish in the country. Kakheti ranks second (27.8 percent) and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti takes third place (13.1 percent). Guria accounts for 11 percent, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara for 5.2 percent each, and Imereti - for 4.1 percent.

In 2018, the average annual price of 1 kilogram of rainbow trout was 8.9 lari, common carp and mirror carp - 7.0 lari, grass carp - 6.0 lari, silver carp and bighead carp - 3.8 lari, Russian sturgeon and Siberian sturgeon - 25.3 lari, wels catfish - 14.9 lari.
