The first domestically produced Turkish locomotives will be commissioned in 2023, a source in Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.
The Turkish railway company “Tuvasas” is engaged in the production of domestic locomotives, according to the source. The preparatory work began in 2017 and the first prototypes of locomotives will be ready in 2021.
The ministry noted that local locomotives will be hybrid.
“After the start of the domestic production of locomotives, Turkey will being to export them to the markets of neighboring countries,” the ministry said.
The localization of production of locomotives was first announced in Turkey in December 2013.
At the first stage, the production volume will be 111 locomotives.
