Time of opening of Georgia's Samtredia-Grigoleti highway made public

One of the parts of the Georgian Samtredia-Grigoleti highway will be opened in 2020, said the First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Georgia, Irakli Karseladze, Trend reports with reference to 1tv.ge.

Construction of the 52-km Samtredia-Grigoleti-Kobuleti road is being carried out as part of the modernization of the East-West transit expressway. The European Union has allocated a grant of 51 million lari (approximately $22.2 million) for the construction of this road.

“By the end of the year, the 14-km section of the road will be completed. Fully work on the 18 kilometers long road will be completed in the spring of 2020. At the moment, the problem with the equipment has been settled, and thus the contractors were able to complete most of the work on a 14-kilometer segment,” said Karseladze.

Samtredia-Grigoleti road starts at km 42 of Zestaponi-Kutaisi bypass-Samtredia road at river Ochopa and Grigoleti area, and ends at river Supsa. The project for modernization of the mentioned road into the highway is being implemented in 4 sections (lots). At the first, second and fourth sections the works are already underway.

The project aims to improve the capacity of high-intensity international road for the increased traffic flows, ensure road safety and uninterrupted transit traffic.
