Iranian saffron farmers will make losses of 40 million rials (app. $952) per 1 kilogram of saffron, member of Iran's National Saffron Council Ali Hosseini told ILNA, Trend reports.

According to him, it is predicted that this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019) every kilogram of saffron will be bought for 60-80 million rials (app. $1,420-1,900). However, while taking into account the cultivation costs of this product, every 1 kg of saffron should not be bought from the producers at a price below 100 million rials (app. $2,380).

"Every 1 kg of saffron is sold and purchased on Iran's domestic market for 70-120 million rials (app. $1,660-2,850)," he said.

It was also noted that in recent months, there has been a decline in Iran's saffron exports due to the employees of European companies being on summer vacations, and that this will continue for 2-3 months, as it is also currently the harvest season.

"During the first three months (March 21 - June 21) of the current Iranian year , Iran's saffron export slightly exceeded 40 tons, although the exports of this product exceeded 50 tons during the same period last year,” he said.

Hosseini added that Iran's saffron price currently stands at around 700-1,000 euros per kilogram.
