Over 97 percent of the tea leaves bought from farmers have been paid for in Iran, Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports via Iran's Young Journalists Club.
To date, over three trillion rials (roughly $79.7 million) have been paid to tea growers, Jahansaz said.
The rest of the money will be paid after the funds are allocated for the payment, Jahansaz added.
The chairman noted that 126,700 tons of tea leaves worth over 3.4 trillion rials (roughly $81.5 million) have been bought from tea growers of the country's Gilan and Mazandaran provinces in the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019), so far.
Jahansaz added that this figure is 11 percent more compared to the figures of the previous year.
In the current Iranian year, 230 billion rials (roughly $5.4 million) of loans have been issued for the country's tea growers, while 170 billion rials (roughly $4 million) of loans have been allocated for the country's tea factories, Habib Jahansaz added.
